Time to talk, shortly time to book!

On Friday we saw the positive news we have been waiting for from the Department for Education (DfE). The announcement that DfE are going to be working with the Treasury on an indemnity policy for schools to cover Covid cancellation is very welcome indeed! So what does this mean for schools?

Inspiring students

Firstly and most importantly it means we can start to plan. We can talk about future trips, we can discuss how we can once again work together to inspire young people, to challenge young people, and to give them the experience of a lifetime. We can introduce you to the charities and projects that schools can support to help their students leave a positive mark on the world.

Schools are still advised against making bookings for the time being. However, the possibility of the indemnity policy being available early next term, and ready for new bookings to travel in the next academic year, makes this a perfect time to talk about your next trip.

How will it work?

The indemnity will be designed to fill the gap left by private insurers for future trips where Covid cover is no longer available. All schools should have access to the scheme. For the past year schools have not been able to book trips due to the uncertainty around Covid cancellation. With the indemnity, schools can book with confidence once more knowing that they, their students and their parents, are protected.

We expect an announcement on how the scheme will work shortly. Our current understanding is that when a trip is booked, but before it is launched, you will be able to take out an indemnity for that individual trip. Each trip will need its own policy.

We have been working hard behind the scenes to make sure we are ready for the changes that may come about. We have updated our school contracts, made it easier for students and parents to sign up on our website, and will look to cover any costs that schools incur from the indemnity scheme.
