How it works

People have their own personal motivations for signing up, but they all take away hugely powerful lessons and experiences for life, whether students, teachers or leaders.

It isn’t all about taking experiences away. Our expeditions are also about giving something back, so the project phase of our itineraries is something we’re passionate about.

And of course Universities, graduate recruiters and employers value the expedition process and the skills it fosters highly so it is a great addition to any CV.

How we get students ready

One of the most enduring lessons your students will learn is to look after themselves and each other.

This is their adventure, so they’ll have the freedom to make influential decisions themselves throughout the planning stages and during the trip itself. Gulp… But don’t worry – our experienced team will fully support their choices while working behind the scenes to ensure your students will be safe, confident and comfortable at all times.

Over the last 10 years we have carefully honed the programme we run to ensure students  are fully ready for the adventure. Through a combination of meetings and communications we ensure everyone is ready and knows what is going on.

Students will collaborate to shape their own adventure, working with their True Adventure Expedition Manager to keep their plans safe, practical and on budget.

As ethical travellers, they’ll develop a sense of responsibility towards the culture and environment they are visiting. All of the True Adventure team are committed to being the best possible role models in this, both as individuals and as an organisation.

We encourage students to raise as much of their funds as they can. Their self-esteem will soar as they achieve more than they ever thought possible – before the adventure even begins

Our UK based training programme culminates in a expedition here at home. Depending on the adventure you will be going on overseas this could be between 1 day, or up to 3 days and 2 nights – it will always ensure you have picked up all the skills needed for your destination. You’ll have a chance to meet you leader for your trip, discuss roles, safety, learn about leadership, health and hygiene on the trip and have fun outdoors.

All the information you need to get ready for the adventure

Our friendly, experienced and helpful team are available to you on email, or by phone throughout the build up to the adventure. We send regular communications to parents and students which will cover all the practical elements of the adventure, such as;

You’ll also have access to MyTrueAdventure where you can update your personal and medical details throughout, find copies of all of the paperwork we send out. You will also find useful documents here, as well as fundraising ideas and can contact us to ask any questions you may have.

It doesn’t stop there!

Our support continues during the adventure to ensure the students get the full benefit of this personal development journey. Our leaders, and the teachers, will facilitate a supportive learning environment as students put the skills they have learnt into practice. We don’t just drop the students in country and say “off you go” — we work at their pace with the leaders gradually handing over greater responsibility.

All students will get the chance to lead the team, work together to run the in-country budget, and review the days activity and learning.

We encourage students to take control of the practical elements of their trip. This could mean negotiating with accommodation and transport providers, sourcing food, or buying the right materials for their project.

When all of these elements combine, your trip becomes a true personal adventure.
