There is no better way to immerse yourselves in the vibrant and lively Mozambican culture than spending time in Maputo. Walk along the city’s streets that are lined with beautifully preserved Portuguese colonial architecture. Visit Independence Square to understand more of Mozambique’s history and explore the markets that are full of local crafts, foods and colourful textiles.
Overland travel will take you deep into rural Mozambique to find challenging and picturesque treks. Embark on a journey to the sand dunes that line the coast. Pass through this diverse and beautiful country and experience the rich culture and wildlife variations in the African grasslands. Stopping along the way to camp and cook at rural bush campsites during your trek is a unique and rewarding way to experience this spectacular country.
On the southern coastline of Mozambique, the team can link up with Love the Oceans who give young people a chance to volunteer at the forefront of marine conservation. Students can take part in a variety of project tasks which could include conducting a coral reef survey, undertaking fishery research or building a plastic bottle wall. Teams will learn about the ocean from qualified marine biologists to gain a really thorough understanding of the issues and challenges identified by this amazing organisation.
Teams can spend time on the white sand beaches along the coast, and explore the vast array of marine life that inhabits the waters and shorelines. There is also an opportunity to snorkel in the clear blue waters, where teams can explore the coral reefs and witness the tropical wildlife. Whilst enjoying the sunny beaches the team are well placed for potentially spotting whales, a truly unforgettable experience.
Mozambique has it all; African plains, mountainous regions, sand dunes, grasslands and stunning beaches. This variety of landscapes means there are plenty of options for every adventure.
May to November is the best time to visit. With cooler and drier weather conditions, travelling through most regions is easier and more enjoyable.
Art, food, tribal celebrations and musical heritage intertwine with Portuguese influences to define this rich and unique culture.
