Expedition

  • Experience a very different culture

Ethiopia has a rich and varied culture due the many ethnic groups whose ancient customs and traditions have remained largely intact. Staying in one of these communities offers a privileged insight into a forgotten world. Witnessing one of the many festivals that are integral to the culture would be a highlight of any trip.

  • Explore a new landscape

For an unforgettable taste of Ethiopia, lace up your boots and head into a landscape that covers all the geological highs and lows. From the Simien Mountains National Park to the Lalibela Valley, Ethiopia offers some of the most stunning scenery in Africa and wildlife species that are found nowhere else in the world.

  • Be part of a global community

Undertaking a project in a rural village is a great opportunity to interact with an Ethiopian community and share experiences and knowledge. Tasks could include maintaining old buildings using traditional techniques or assisting in classroom activities with local school children.

  • Learn something important- discover an amazing history

Ethiopia has a wealth of historical attractions. Marvel at the medieval, rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, explore the castles of Gondar, once the seat of Ethiopian emperors, and delve into the museums of Addis Ababa for an insight into the country’s many different peoples and their rich cultures.

What to expect

  • Terrain

Ethiopia’s landscapes are epic in both scale and beauty. Scarred by the Great Rift Valley the terrain varies from the lush plateaus, dramatic peaks and vertiginous canyons of the highlands to stirring deserts and sweeping savannah.

  • Culture

Ethiopia is home to numerous ethnic groups, each with their own language and customs. Visitors cannot fail to be impressed by the colour and individuality of its cultures and traditions.

  • Weather

Ethiopia has a comfortable, tropical climate year-round with regional variations. October to March are the best months with sunny skies, warm days and low rainfall.
